The Number One Love Story

Today we celebrate Christmas, the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Why does it hold such importance in our lives? It has become a commercial day for some, but this day represents the most incredible love story’s beginning to many of us.

Jesus did not have to come to earth to be born as a newborn baby.

He did not have to walk on this earth as a mortal man and experience everything he did or offer himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins or take our place at the cross on Mount Calvary.

Why did He?

He did so, so we would not have to face God’s anger and ultimately spiritual death.

He did this because of His love for you and me.

John 3:16 says, “ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

This is the greatest love story that continues in each person who accepts this gift that He freely gives us.

The Greatest Love Story: Joan’s Version

I accepted the gift God gave us when I was nine years old.

At that time, I was attending Kent Academy in Miango, Jos in, Nigeria, an American Christian boarding school built primarily for missionary children worldwide.

One night, during our nightly devotions with the 4th and 5th-grade girls, our dorm parent told us of a young girl who died in a house fire. She was known to be a Christian.

As we were about to pray, she asked if we knew where we would go if we died; heaven or hell.

I had been asked this question before and had not worried about it. I shrugged it off. I knew I was not a Christian then, and for some reason, not knowing where I was going after I died bugged me considerably this time.

That night in bed, I started to cry.  I did not want to die, nor did I want to go to hell.

My dorm parent, while making rounds, heard me crying and asked me what the matter was. I told her that I was afraid and I did not want to go to hell.

I was an obedient child and rarely got into trouble. My good behavior was not going to save me. I was in no better situation than those who were always getting into trouble for doing wrong.

That night, she led me to Christ, and I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.

What about you?

You have the same opportunity as I do to decide whether to accept Christ or not.

The same can happen to you where this love story can become your greatest love story.

Why don’t you accept Him today? What is stopping you?

Fear of what others will say or how your life will change?

I can not promise you life will be all dandelions and roses. Life is nothing of the sort.

But what I can promise you is that a relationship with the Lord leads to freedom.

It leads to peace. It leads to hope.

And most importantly, it leads to love.

Would you like to accept this gift? If so, pray this short prayer with me.

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner.

I acknowledge you came to this earth to die for my sin.

Your death is the only way to bring me into a relationship with God.

I accept your gift.

Thank you for forgiving my sins.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

This new journey of yours is not supposed to be walked alone. Please reach out to a Bible-believing church where you live.

Today, as we celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ’s birth, I also pray that this will be a celebration of your birth into the family of God. As the angels rejoiced so long ago when Jesus was born, they will also rejoice over you.

Brother/Sister, welcome to the family!!
